This well established event is the result of discussions initiated by D3 Founding Director Ron Dickson with US-based series CART to negotiate a deal for them to venture to Australia. Ron’s persistence paid off, when in 1991 CART raced for the first time off US soil on the streets of Surfers Paradise, Australia.

Currently in it’s 18th year (in 2009) of operation the circuit is still running on the original D3-designed layout. The event has continued to grow and each year more then 300,000 spectators flocking to the event.
